Twist Out Routine!

I was peer pressured into starting a youtube channel last week. I do washday every tuesday night now and try to publish on Wednesday – sometimes Thursday.

Here is my first video from last week – the next will come later today. Just finished editing and have to wait on the upload.

This one is tips for the perfect twist out! I give tips and tricks to not ruin the pattern when you’re taking down your twists.

oh and here’s days 2-5 (day 6 i forgot to take a pic, day 7 was a bun)

Hair update – straight to curly :) and back to my fave product

So a lot of people have asked about my hair pressing routine. There are so many things I do to make sure that I don’t end up with damaged hair – mainly only doing 1-2 passes for each section of hair and not touching up with heat.

But I still hold my breath on wash day! Here’s how I do it 🙂

This was the last day of my press. It lasted about 3 weeks. I was over it. Idk how people with straight hair deal. Hair just shedding. Combing every day. Styling daily. Just not cool.

Here it is with the braid taken out (ignore my sticker, I had taken Beezy to the childrens expolorium earlier haha)img_9757

Bad pic but I section my hair in four sections like I do in my normal washday routine.img_9758

I take one section and totally saturate with water. First it gets smaller and straighter than it starts curling up within like 20 seconds. Then I add my fave deep conditioner and put in a bun.img_9760

I put the 4 buns in a shower cap (flipped inside out so I always have 1 clean side to protect my hair if needed haha) and wait about 5-10 mins.img_9761img_9762

Then I detangle and rinse and add my styling product. I reached for Deva Curl decadence line because honestly, I had my hair styled by devacurl stylists over a year ago and they SLAYED. So I went with it. But it’s never worked as well for me. I have to use SOOO MUCH. And it never lasts as long.img_9763

Anywho finished product the next day. I was hype to have my curls back but not hype with the results.. I NEVER AM with that product. Yet I keep stupidly using it.img_9788

I tried spraying and redefining a few times the next couple of days and it just wasn’t working right.img_9806

So here’s my story – and I’m not AT ALL knocking deva curl. But basically, I don’t know why I kept fighting with those products when I already knew what worked for me. More details on that here.

So basically, I got tired of fighting with products that didn’t work and I reached for Kinky CUrly. It was my staple for YEARS (2009 – 2015 – from growing out to taper to growing out again). I still had some left. Yal, look at the difference in how my hair looked!

img_9951img_9953img_9955img_9957

I knew from how it looked wet – it was gonna be lit. AND it took me half the time that it takes when I use deva curl. Literally took me 20-30 mins.

But dry – girl….. POPPIN.img_0017img_0002

day 2img_0188img_0099

it’s almost time to do another wash – but I’m happy with how this one lasted. I’ll be back to kinky curly for wash and goes for the unforseeable future haha. Moral of the story? It’s ok to try what works for everyone else. But don’t stick with it if it doesn’t work for you! Do you, boo!

And for the record – no heat damage in sight 🙂img_0243img_0278

Annual hair press AKA – Get you a girl that can do both 😂

Alright guys – it’s that time of year again where I straighten my hair. My timehop app always reminds me. I actually like straightneing my hair once a year – it gives me a chance to examine my ends and lets me switch it up. I also like seeing how much growth I’ve had.

So here is where I started at. Week old braidout.

Natural Hair Growth

I hear it all the time. “My hair isn’t growing!” “How do you get your hair to grow so fast?” “I hope I can get my hair that long one day”

Listen, in my opinion, there’s a huge problem in the natural hair community. And that issue is that we spend however much money being a product junkie buying the finest, most organic, natural ingredients. I mean standing in the product aisle READING THE BACK OF ISH (this is me too so i ain’t mad at ya).

And then we pull up at McDonalds for a McDouble and fries.

I Trimmed My Ends

Alright guys – I know yal hadn’t told me – yal be tryna be nice. But my ends were THROUGH. I have known for awhile bu t last time I did my hair, I couldn’t even unravel my twists without snagging at the end of everyone. Which creates frizz. Which makes me mad af. Day 1 of a twist out I usually have beautiful coiled end. Look at these:

Some of yal will say it looks fine. It didn’t Continue reading “I Trimmed My Ends”

Natural hair poppin for the low

Listen. I’m a bad natural. I still use silicones. I wash with a sulfate shampoo like 2x a month. I don’t finger detangle. I don’t prepoo. I ain’t right.

But I can get my hair poppin for like a month for under $20. And though I LOVE some of the pricey, healthier lines (kinky curly, deva curl to name my faves) – I used to be a college student. And ima forever be cheap. Scouts honor.

So here’s a few of my favorite cheap hair products that do awesome on my hair. They ain’t organic. But they’ll have you poppin.

Wash routine and twist and curl (video at the end)

So I’m pretty amazing for the fact that that my hair is approaching waist length and I can still get my wash day done in 30 minutes flat.

It didn’t use to be like that. I use to dread wash day even more than I do now back when my hair was this length before (check my about me – in 2013 I cut my bra strap length hair to a taper for a year). I would hop in the shower with my hair loose and wash it all piled up on my head. Then I would condition, rinse it out, and get out the shower and wrap my head in a towel. Then try to part and section and section and detangle.

Sis. No. Don’t do it. Once your past shoulder length – for the love of all that is holy SECTION YOUR HAIR TO WASH. Don’t be like me. Mistakes were made early on.

My Denman Brush and Wide-tooth Comb

So if you read my braid out and other hair blog posts, you know that I use a modified denman brush. Its something I learned at random about 6-7 years ago. I purchased a denman d4 brush from Sally’s. It’s expensive af yal. Well, not expensive af but way more than I was prepared to pay for a brush. Not sure pricing now but it was like $12 back then. You can order online too.
