Our basement is partially finished. The unfinished part is our home gym – which is where we started CSS Wellness years ago. the finished part served as kind of a 3rd living room. We already have the formal living room and the family room upstairs. And since there’s no bathroom in the basement, we didn’t use it often.
But with the stay at home order keeping us cooped up and the weather being so rainy – i thought we needed to make a nicer play area! (Plus upstairs was flooded with toys and driving me crazy 😂)
This is what we started with in the basement

When we moved in this house it was really beige. I always knew we would paint, but I was working full time and LB was a baby and I was adjusting to a whole new state. Life was hectic. And we never got around to painting.
So right before covid-19 close the gym we had someone give us an estimate to paint. But then we were suddenly unemployed and unsure so we decided to wait. But anxiety and boredum don’t go well, so we bought the paint and did it ourselves!
This was the largest paint job we have done to date. Continue reading “Painting the whole dag on house basically”
For some reason, builders of middle class homes in Lexington, KY always leave out a mud room. When you come into our house from the garage you walk basically straight into our kitchen. We have an entryway closet but it was always cluttered with junk. Brian and LB had an issue with leaving ALL their shoes in there until you can’t even see the floor.
All the coats were in there too. And anything we didn’t have a home for. I hated that closet – just a cluttered mess.
When quarantine hit and the gym closed, Brian told me he was gonna fix my closet. Continue reading “Entry closet redesign”
I still to this day get asked questions about our kitchen renovation from 2017. And I’m tired of sharing an old blog post so here’s some updates 😂
Since that post not much has changed in the kitchen other than decor and doing the grout renew pen. But i do get a lot of questions about how things have been holding up.

Somehow I feel like I’m nesting again. So I tackled something that’s bothered me for awhile. For some reason, whoever built this house picked out tile with basically WHITE grout for the floor. When we moved in I was totally unfamiliar with care and didn’t know it wasn’t sealed. So obviously it got disgusting. I really didn’t notice because I was working so much, but my the time we had been living there 6 months the floor looked totally different. So much so that in our painted cabinets before and after someone asked if we had changed the floor 😩
That was after only living here like 6 months! Continue reading “STILL nesting somehow – grout renew”
This past week in Nesting with Tarra I did a few things. First, I threw out all of our towels and got all new spa grade fluffy white towels.
It was a need.
Then we tackled the kids bathroom. This was another room that like our laundry room, was white. Like only primer from the time it was built in 2006. When we were visiting a friends new house about a month ago they had a blue bathroom and LB asked for one for his birthday. His wish is my Nesting command.
I also had Brian frame out the mirror and put up a new light fixture. I added some hardware to the vanity (leftover from another project) and added a towel organizer for his new blue towels he had. I also got a new rug from home goods.
Framing the mirror was hell. Only because we had an old fancy track light from our old house we tried to use, but it was missing the back plate and … listen it’s a long story but it just wasn’t worth the hassle lol. So we got a new one.
Other than that, Brian pried odd the mirror boarded around 3/4 of the mirror (glued onto the mirror by builders) and glued the boards directly to the mirror. The top board is nailed into the wall. That board actually somehowwww got cut short. Nothing that couldn’t be fixed by cutting a small piece and gluing/caulking into place. After painting you can’t tell.

My plans for laundry beautification were interrupted last week because it was fall break. No preschool so no alone time.

Anywho – I decided to work on it over the weekend when Brian could entertain LB and I could have my sister help with paint.
First things first, I had to pick a paint color. Which was HARD. I wanted to go with a blue color but honestly we have so much blue in our house. And it’s a small space so I thought I could get a little wild and go with a purple tint.
I planned on painting a billion swatches before picking but I walked Into Lowe’s and this color called my name

My nesting instinct is already strong af and I’m only 14 weeks. Like, since week 12 I have reorganized/cleaned out my closet, cleaned out all of LBs toy boxes, painted furniture, redecorated our bedroom, got all new scentsy waxes and candles… I’m just on it.
I wanted to share the final bedroom transformation because I just love how it turned out. You guys saw the furniture transformation here – but I couldn’t stop there. Soooo I knew what I needed. That blank wall – had to go. I needed a large mirror and curtains. And some other wall decor. I went out to homegoods with my friend Jessica on Saturday and bought the items. Yal, the urge to finish the room was SO GREAT that I couldn’t stop myself from spending money on it lol. THEN it wasn’t enough to just buy it. Brian had friends in town and he was going to be out late.
So why did my pregnant behind hang the mirror and curtains and wall art at like 10 PM?
Jesus be a fence.
THEN I had to dig out our nice comforter set and wash it that night to put on the bed the next day.
However – everything turned out beautiful. Take a look:
After (please note – I want and will add a bed skirt. Hubby hates them. He has won the battle not the war):
Thank you for tuning into this week’s episode of Nesting with Tarra. Next week? The laundry room!
So I’m back at it with painting my futniture. You may remember from the last time I did some furniture rehab. Sooo here we go, we bought a new comfy chair for our bedroom and it is gray. We had to rearrange the entire room to fit this chair, and it ended up with our chest of drawers directly by our night stands. The problem?
Our night stands are mine from college. I got them from Big Lots. And our dresser and chest are mix matched too, though they’re nice and real wood (given to us by a friend). So all the woods are different colors.
Brian couldn’t stand it lol. So I promised him I would paint the night stands and dresser. So I picked a day and got to it. I’m 13 weeks pregnant so it’s not like the fatigue is going to go away anytime soon lol. Just had to push through.
As usual I used my favorite value chalk paint by Rustoleum. I like it because of the price point (about half the price of the Lowes brand) AND the quality. I also bought some chalk paint brushes which honestly were good but they shed. I should have soaked them first.
Anywho, I went to work. Here are the before pictures of it all
I did not paint that beautiful chest. I left it the same lol.

So basically, I been wanting a desk. Like forever and a day. But I haven’t been wanting to spend the money AND I have been afraid to try anything myself.
I got over it this weekend. I quickly hit the peddlers mall and found… no desk (for the price I wanted). I did however find this cute little headboard and and side table for $20 (total, not each) and thought hmmmm… maybe I can do these for the guest room or to sell.
Anywho, got home and went back to facebook marketplace and facebook and FINALLY that next morning I found a desk. It was listed for $20 but I got it for $15. Some of the drawers needed a little work (they were missing the metal piece that stopped them from sliding back too far) but it was solid wood a sturdy and I liked the style. Other than those knobs. I knew they were going from jump.
Yes, I did forget to take a before pic once I got these home but yal know how I am. I was lucky to have these pics lol.
